Welcome to PWOC Alaska Region
Hello Ladies and Chaplains! I am so excited about what God is going to do within the Alaska Region over these next couple of years! I want to continue with the heart-felt goal of last season's board; that we develop authentic relationships with God and each other. We know that everything boils down to LOVE, because God's Word says, "The entire law is summed up in a single command: Love your neighbor as yourself." and I pray that we grow in our love-walks this season. I have found that loving another involves the mind and will more so than emotions. I have to deliberately choose to love and show love to others at all times. To rearrange the way I think about a person when my thoughts turn away from lovely towards ungodly (resentful, angry, or unkind) and deliberately dwell on pleasant and uplifting things about that person to be able to continue in love. I believe that God's heart for this Region speaks from Colossians 2:2-3, "My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." I look forward to joining our hearts in a love that springs from Christ as we continue our walk with Him!
Blessings to each and every one of you!
Treva Slaughter, 2011-2012 Alaska Region President

A.C.T.S., based on the example of the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:9-12, is one instrument to use as an outline for your prayers and is not intended to be used in a rigid manner, but more as a guide.
- Adoration: "Father, hallowed be your name." Here Jesus is starting his prayer focusing on, adoring and revering God the Father. Just as God should be first in our lives he should be first in our prayer life. Use this time to shower the Lord our God with praises and adoration.
- Confession: "Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors." We are to acknowledge that we have in fact sinned. Yes God already knows what we have done but it is important for us to bring it to him and lay it down at his feet. It is after we do this that we can come to him with a pure heart and not have our sin getting in the way of our relationship with him. 1 John 1:9 says "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
- Thanksgiving: While thanksgiving is not specifically in the Lord's prayer in Matthew Jesus does give us other examples of it. "At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned and revealed them to little children." Matthew 11:25. "So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me." John 11:41 (to just name a couple) It is important to show God our thankfulness for all that he has done in our lives, the lives of those that we love, for sending Jesus to die on the Cross for us, for his many miracles in the world today. Again this is keeping the focus on God but also on our relationship with him. When we start to think of things to thank him for, it helps us to realize all he has done for us, and not on the things we do not have.
- Supplication: "Give us this daily bread....and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil" During this part of our prayer time we let God know our personal needs or our petitions. Our petitions are our earnest requests. This is not time to pull out our Christmas list for Santa. How would you feel if every time a loved one talked to you they started the conversation out with everything they needed from you? Often I want to start off my prayer time with all the things I think I, or others need but it is so important to start off with God and our relationship as the focus because then I am of a better mindset and more able to listen to the needs God wants me to pray for. This could be a time that you are praying for needs in your own life or interceding on someone else's behalf or even praying for needs in the world, as long as it is still done with a focus on God and his glory. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6
